We need some hills to climb in training for the lake district, as we will be going up there very shortly. This route has a different start point from last time, we decided to leave from the car park near to Ivinghoe beacon (SP963159). Many people think that the summit of Ivinghoe beacon is the highest point however it is not. It stands at 233m but just to the south is a trig point at 249m (SP965151) near to crawley wood. We walked from the beacon on the familiar route down, and up through the coombe (SP969155). You will find some steep steps near to this point and it is a good climb to the top. A lot of this route follows the old Ridgeway path that starts from Overton Hill near to Avebury and runs all the way ivinghoe beacon about 87 miles in total. Along the route we take, you will find the Village of Aldbury, a stop here is a must, its a lovely looking village with a small duck pond and two pubs. It was in the Valiant trooper that we had a rest and I tested a pint of Ridgeway beer brewed by the local Tring brewery.
