We recently visited the Steam fair located near to the village of Blanford Forum in Dorset. The fair is in its 49th year and covers over 600 acres and is one of Europes largest events, over 200,000 visitors are expected to attend. We decided to make a good day of it so we left early Sunday morning and took the tent down to Camp the night, the campsites go as far as the eye can see and masses of Tents - caravans and motor homes can be seen. Camping for the night and day and night entrance tickets only cost £52 and is well worth the money, you will struggle to see it all in one day its that vast

There is plenty for the whole family to see and do,you do not have to be interested in steam to appreciate the show, and kids will enjoy the animals & falcons that do regular displays throughout the weekend. The weather made this trip with temperatures over 25c, so it was vital to enjoy the many beer tents that surrounded the venue and don’t bother taking any food with you, there are masses of food stalls that sell dishes from all over the world. The big steam traction engines are all working and can be seen around the main arena pulling loads and also powering various machines such as saws and hay bailer etc, also a massive collection of miniature steam engines. Old trucks and vintage cars, bicycles, military vehicles and loads of barn engines are also on display. The heavy horse displays are good and can be seen pulling various drays around the arena, it was good to see the massive shire horses and Suffolk punch's parading around. I will defently revisit next year, you will struggle to see it all in one day . The big event is at midnight when all the steam engines sound there whistles and let of steam, this however we missed due to walking a long way and the evils of the beer tent we shall return.
