Haddington Hill over looking Wendover

Total Distance 13.66 Miles Elevation gain 1029ft

We walked this week the the highest point in the Chilterns, Haddingtonl Hill overlooking Wendover. It stands at 876ft but the views are not great from a lot of the top due to dense Woodland. We parked in the Wendover hill car park. This was the only bad part of the day with car parking at £5.50 for over 4 hours. Sorry to say this is a total rip off, shame on you Wendover Forestry Commission. Anyway after we were robbed, we made our way along our trail to find the Ridgeway near wendover.

A fair amount of the route that we walked had Grims Ditch running through it. This is an Iron age working and the first mention of the ditch is in 1170-1190 in the Missenden Cartulary. you can still see a lot of the earthworks so we took a photo for the collection.

We walked for a few hours through numerous woodland towards the village of Wigginton. We only walked around the end part of the village but some of it looked nice so we may get back one day. From there we had to climb up through woodland to Aston Hill, here you will find loads of Mountain Bikers going through the woods. A keen Biker i will return here and have a go one day. From here we climbed again to the top of Haddington Hill and finally found the plinth that stated the height at 876ft and had our photo taken for the record.

The last Bit of the Trip consisted of a trip to the Valliant Trooper at Aldbury for a pint of Ridgeway Bitter
