The Cosgrove to Deanshanger Canal (the Buckingham Arm)

Distance 4.6 Miles : Time 1h 34m : Elevation60ft

We fancied a Short work this week due to work commitments so we headed for River Side walk in-between old & Stony Stratford. this journey is an easy one and suitable for Older people and young Children. First we parked in the Town of Stony stratford and heeded for the gate that starts the walk along the River Ouse.

Walk starting Point

The route we done takes you along the River Ouse all the way until you meet the Grand union canal above it. Here you will see the iron Trunk that was built in the year 1795 - 1805. The Canal used to go through the river by means of 5 locks. The Buckingham Arm of the canal was opened in 1801 and was disused in 1932 and finally abandoned in 1964. You can trace it very easy all the way from Cosgrove to the A5 that runs through Milton Keynes. I have made a little Youtube Video for you to have a look at and also the GPS data and google earth files.
