On Saturday 24th September 2011 we visited the magnificent Coughton Court near the village of Alcester Warwickshire. Only about an Hour and 20 minutes away from Milton Keynes. Home to the Throckmorton family for 600 years, This house is steeped in history including the Gunpowder plot of 1605 and the Throckmorton plot of 1583 which aimed to Murder Elizabeth 1. The Throckmorton family were Roman Catholics and inside the house you will find priest holes that they uncovered back in the early 1900's. The house belongs to the national trust on a 300 year lease, and you can tour the house and the gardens that surround the property. If you regularly check the website you will often find many extra things on at the house so check with the national trust. Please have a look at the photos and the other links below.
